DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Cash cattle trade started up on Thursday last week, and
finished up on Friday with Northern dressed business showing a full range of
$295 to $306, mostly $297, $2 higher than the prior week's weighted average,
basis Nebraska. Southern deals took place at mostly $190 to $191, steady to
$2 higher than the previous week's weighted averages. According to
Wednesday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary
reports, weekly accumulated weighted averages were as follows, (the prior
week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). KS $190.00($190.00); NE
$296.61($295.05); TX $189.76($189.17); IA $297.57($297.74); CO not available
due to confidentiality.
The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 5,749; NE 16,782; TX 2,509, IA 18,647; CO NA due
to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 117,000 head, even with the
prior week, but 5,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at
12,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 614,000 head, 78,000 greater the
previous weeks holiday slaughter, but 24,000 below 2023. The weekly average
for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $310.41(-0.36), select
$276.77(+2.31), with an average choice select spread of $33.64(-2.67), and a
total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 626(+139), (Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending November 30, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 41,526, 72.07% of the previous week and 80.22% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a typical Monday with both buyers
and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking prices are not established
and significant trade volume will likely be delayed until late in the second
half of the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be mixed, with generally light
box movement.
